Outdoor Activities

The nature in Sintra lends itself for many activities that are doable all year around.

Ask us for more information and help for booking. Advanced booking is necessary for the activities that include equipment hires or guides.

Walking and Hiking

The nature and trails in Sintra are very varied: you can hike the mountain, walk along the rugged coastline or roam through the countryside and its villages. There are walks of different levels, some of them are marked, for others you need a map.

We will be happy to help you plan the best paths for you and even add an activity or interest point if you want – like hiking to a vineyard for a wine tasting or choosing a walk that takes you to points of historical or cultural interest – or passes by archaeological sites.

You can use the free WalkSintra APP we created to make it easier to explore the whole of Sintra and not only the more known center with the palaces and monuments. Visit Walk Sintra website here to get a good idea of where to go – and to start planning your Sintra visit!

If you don’t want to go on your own, we can book a walking guide for you or for your group for a half a day or a full day  Contact us for more information.

Mountain and road biking

Mountain and road biking are both popular sports in Sintra.  There are many tracks all over Sintra: mountain, seaside, and countryside – of different levels difficulty. Unfortunately not many are marked.

The different bike rental companies have, in addition to the equipment, maps, guides and services available, and they specialize in certain types of cycling.

Normal and Electric Mountain bike hires are normally with a guide only. We can help you get in contact with the company that suits your riding best!

Surfing and Bodyboarding

The 18 kms of Sintra coastline is very good for surfing and bodyboarding.

There are many surf schools with accredited instructors and the lessons include all the material needed to get started or to continue practising this sport,   insurance included.

Sintra’s Praia Grande beach is one of the world cup beaches for bodyboarding.

Paragliding baptism

If you are more interested in flying, and if the winds are favourable, a paragliding tandem baptism on the coast might be just for you.

Read more about this experience here.

Climbing and bouldering

Climbing and bouldering are both available in Sintra – is this the time you transit from climbing walls to the real thing?

There are more than 20 crags and 30 bouldering sectors, limestone, granite, basalt and sandstone for Sport-climbing, Traditional-climbing and Bouldering.

You can arrange for a teacher or a guide for this activity. Crash pads, ropes, and shoes can be hired from an instructor.

Golf

There are 4 golf courses in Sintra:

  • Beloura Pestana
  • Penha Longa Atlantic and Monestary courses
  • Belas Clube de Campo

Also the Cascais and Estoril courses are within 20 kms of Casa do Valle.
